Naenia

NAENIA, æ, war eine besondere Göttinn der Römer, welche insonderheit bey den Begräbnissen alter Leute angerufen wurde. Augustin de C. D. l. VI. c. 9. & ad eum Vives & Coqueus l. c. Ihre Kapelle hatte sie außerhalb der Stadt vor dem viminalischen Thore. Festus l. XII. p. 261. Sie wird fast besser Nenia geschrieben, weil ihr Namen von dem Griechischen Νηνίατος herstammet. Voss. Etymol. in Nenia, p. 395. Sonst stunden die alten Leute unter ihrem Schutze. Arnob. ap. Struvium Synt. A. R. c. 1. v. 160. Es hatten von ihr auch die Trauerlieder den Namen, welche die nächsten Anverwandten, oder in deren Ermangelung, die Präficä bey den Leichen unter die Flöten sungen. Non. Marcell. in Nænia, p. 1280.
