ALCMAEON, ŏnis, Gr. Ἀλκμαίων, ονος, ( Tab. XXV.) des Amphiaraus und der Eriphyle Sohn. Diod. Sicul. lib. IV. c. 7. Er wurde von den Epigonen in dem andern Zuge wider Theben auf des Orakels Befehl zu ihrem Oberhaupte erwählet, wobey er sich dergestalt verhielt, daß er nicht nur den Laodamas, des Eteokles Sohn, in einem besondern harten Zweykampfe erlegete, sondern auch endlich die Stadt selbst eroberte und zerstörete. Apollod. lib. III. c. 7. §. 2. Weil er aber nicht allein seinem Vater versprechen müssen, seinen Tod an der Eriphyle, seiner Mutter, zu rächen, welche ihn gegen Empfangung eines besondern Halsbandes verrathen hatte, daß er den ersten Zug vor Theben mit thun müssen, wovon er doch wußte, daß er von da nicht wieder zurück kommen würde; Diod. Sicul. l. c. & Hygin. Fab. 73. sondern dieselbe sich auch wider ihn sebst bestechen lassen: so fragete er dießfalls das Orakel um Rath, welches denn die Rache an seiner Mutter gut hieß. Apollod. l. c. §. 5. Nichts destoweniger wurde er, nach Vollziehung derselben, dergestalt von den Furien umgetrieben, daß er nirgends keine bleibende Stätte hatte. Er begab sich also nach Psophis in Arkadien, wo er vom Phegeus ausgesöhnet wurde, und dessen Tochter Arsinoe, Apollod. l. c. §. 5. oder, wie sie andere nennen, Alphesiböa, Pausan. l. c. heurathete, mit der der einen Sohn, Klytius, zeugete, und welcher er das Halsband und den Rock seiner Mutter schenkete. Allein, weder seine Aussöhnung noch seine Heurath konnten ihn von seinem Wahnsinne befreyen. Als er nun das Orakel abermal um Rath fragete, so befahl ihm dieses, sich in ein Land zu begeben, welches noch nicht da gewesen, als seine Mutter ein jedes verfluchet, welches ihn aufnehmen würde. Nach langem Umschweifen kam er endlich auf eine Insel, welche der Fluß Achelous aller. erst angeleget hatte. Hier ließ er sich nieder und wurde seiner Plage befreyet. Pausan. Arcad. c. 24. So heurathete er auch des gedachten Achelous Tochter, die Kallirhoe, nachdem er seine erste Gemahlinn verstoßen hatte. Weil nun Kallirhoe von dem unglücklichen Halsbande so vieles hatte reden hören, so wollte sie solches auch haben. Alkmäon machete daher sich wieder zum Phegeus und gab vor, daß er von seinem Wahnwitze sollte befreyet werden, wenn er solches Halsband nach Delphis schicken würde. Phegeus stellete es ihm also auch zu. Da er aber erfuhr, daß er es der Kallirhoe überbringen wollte, so schickete er ihm seine beyden Söhne, den Temenus und Axiones, nach, die ihn noch auf dem Wege einholeten und niedermacheten. Apollod. l. c. Diesen Tod rächeten hernach seine Söhne Akarnan und Amphoterus wieder, und richteten nicht nur gedachten Temenus und Axiones, sondern auch den Phegeus selbst nebst dessen Gemahlinn hin. Id. ib. §. 6. Dieses geschah in ihrer zartesten Jugend; daher man denn dichtete, die Göttinn Hebe hätte ihre Jahre vermehret, damit sie desto geschwinder in den Stand kämen, diese Rache ausüben zu können. Ovid. Metam. IX. 417. Die Tragödien, welche Sophokles, Fabric. Biblioth. Gr. lib. II. c. 17. §. 3. Euripides, Id. ib. c. 18. §. 3. Ennius und Accius Id. Biblioth. Lat. lib. IV. c. 1. §. 4. von ihm geschrieben, sind insgesammt verloren gegangen.
