ALECTO, us, Gr. Ἀληκτὼ, όος, contr. οῦς, (⇒ Tab. I.) des Aethers und der Erde Tochter, eine von den 3 Furien. Hygin. Præf. p. 3. Sie hat den Namen von dem α privat. und λήγομαι, desino, Gyrald. Synt. VI p. 210. welchem nach sie im Lateinischen so viel als impausibilis unaufhörlich heißen soll. Fulgent. Mythol. lib. I. c. 6. Andere leiten solchen Namen gleich von ἀλήκτως her, welches so viel als indesinenter, & incunctanter heißt, weil Gott auf solche Art die, welche einen Mord begangen, bestrafe. Phurnut. de N.D. c. 10. Virgil saget von ihr Aen. VII. 325. es liege ihr nichts, als traurige Kriege, Uneinigkeiten, Nachstellungen und schädliche Verbrechen am Herzen; sie sey ihrem Vater und ihren Schwestern verhaßt und nehme allerhand Gestalten an; ihr Angesicht wäre grimmig und sie stieße scheußliche Schlangen hervor.
