Itonía

ITONÍA, æ, Gr. Ἰτωνία, ας, ein Beynamen der Minerva, welche ihren berühmten Tempel zwischen Pherä und Larissa hatte, in welchem Pyrrhus ehemals der von ihm erschlagenen Gallier Schilde aufhieng. Paus. Att. c. 13. p. 23. Einen andern hatte sie unsern von Koronea, welchen ihr Itonus, Amphiktyons Sohn, erbauet, von dem sie auch diesen Beynamen bekommen. Id. Bœot. c. 34. p. 593. cf. Schol. Apollon. ad l. I. v. 551. Ihr Bildniß könnte vielleicht das seyn, was auf einer thessalischen Münze Valerians vorkömmt, wo sie gehelmet ist, geht, an dem linken Arme den Schild trägt und mit aufgehobener rechten Hand den Wurfspieß schwingt.
