Thyiades

THYIĂDES, um, waren Weiber, welche mit dem Bacchus umher zogen, oder doch sonst dessen Fest begiengen. Man nannte daher auch die attischen Weiber so, welche jährlich auf den Parnaß giengen, und mit delphischen Weibern die Orgia des Bacchus daselbst feyerten. Pausan. Phoc. c. 4. p. 614. Sie sollen den Namen, nach einigen, von Thyoneus haben, welches den Bacchus selbst bedeutet; nach andern aber von θύειν, heftig herum laufen; weil sie als unsinnig herum schwärmeten. Serv. ad Virgil. Aen. IV. v. 302. Cf. Sylburg. ad Pausan. Phoc. c. 4. p. 804. Noch andere leiten ihn von vorhergehender Thyia her; Pausan. l. c. c. 6. p. 619. oder auch von θύειν, opfern, daher sie auch Saerificulæ Bacchi genannt werden. Becmann. Orig. LL. in Thuscum, p. 1104. Sie sind sonst mit den Bachantinnen, Mänaden u.d.g. einerley.
