Venilia

VENILIA, æ, eine Nymphe, welche einige mit der Salacia für einerley halten. Serv. ad Virgil Aen. X. v. 76. Andere halten sie für eine Schwester der Amata und Mutter des Turnus. Virgil. l. c. Wenigstens wurde sie von den Römern göttlich verehret, und sollte eine Göttinn seyn, welche denen Verzeihung ertheilete, die solche sucheten; Serv. l. c. oder, nach andern, die kommende Hoffnung. Augustin. de C. D. l. IV. c. 11. Jedoch erklärete man sie auch für das Seewasser, sofern es Fluth machet, und an das Land kömmt, so wie Salacia die Ebbe seyn soll. Id. ib. l. VII. c. 27. Varro de LL. l. IV. c. 10. Daher geben sie einige selbst für Neptuns Gemahlinn aus. Nat. Com. l. II. c. 8.
